April 6, 2024 – Ready to help Historic Sotterley usher in spring? We’re looking for volunteers who don’t mind getting dirty, love gardening and farming, and want to help their community to join us for our Growing for Good Planting Days! You will help us get our seeds planted so they can start growing in our Hoop House or cut and prep potatoes for planting in our fields. What we produce here at Historic Sotterley gets donated to our partners at local food banks and pantries to support community members in need.

We’re hosting 3 planting days: March 23, March 30, and April 6. Planting will take place from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. These planting dates are not weather dependent, if the weather does not cooperate we can move indoors to continue planting while staying dry! Please sign up in advance so we can know how many volunteers to expect.

This volunteer opportunity is family-friendly. Anyone 5 years and older is invited to help us plant, and it’s a wonderful opportunity to teach little ones about where food comes from. This is also a great opportunity for Girl Scout or Boy Scout troops to get their volunteer requirements in.

Plan to arrive 15 minutes prior to the start time and check-in at the Farm Building to the right of the Visitor Center. We recommend hats, gloves, sunscreen, bug spray, and shoes and clothes you are not afraid to get dirty.
