DESCRIPTION:Chris Haley\nDirector of the Study of the Legacy of Slavery in Maryland at the Maryland State Archives and the Utopia Film Festival\nFinding Chris Haley\nWednesday\, March 16th\, 2022 at 7:00 p.m.\n____________________________________________________________________________\n\nClick here to Register!\nMr. Chris Haley will discuss his life\, responsibility\, joys\, challenges\, his future\, and the legacy of his family so widely known from the work of his famous uncle\, author\, Alex Haley. \nAs Director of both the Study of the Legacy of Slavery in Maryland at the Maryland State Archives Research Department and the Utopia Film Festival in Greenbelt\, Maryland\, Mr. Haley has served on many prestigious boards in the world of African American genealogy as well as in the Arts. They include the Kunta Kinte-Alex Haley Foundation\, Historic London Town Foundation\, Jake Savage Foundation\, Annapolis Arts Alliance Foundation and the Annapolis Film Festival among others. \nChris is well respected as a speaker at numerous venues throughout the United States where he has spoken on themes such as African American history\, self-empowerment\, and genealogy. He earned his B.A in English\, with Drama minor at The University of Maryland – College Park\, and resides in Landover\, Maryland. \n​​​​​​​This event is made possible by the generous support of Maryland Humanities and the Maryland Heritage Area Authority. \nFREE WEBINAR for the public – Advance registration required.  \nClick here to Register!

DESCRIPTION:Sign Up Here\nAn opportunity to help your community… get out of the house and help your neighbors in need all while safely maintaining social distancing! \nVolunteers who enjoy the great outdoors\, don’t mind getting dirty\, and want to help others are asked to join us for another planting extravaganza at Historic Sotterley\, as part of our “Growing for Good” program! We are continuing the challenging work of sustainably farming the land. What we produce at Sotterley supports those in need in partnership with local food pantries. \nOne planting session on two different dates to choose from: 9:00 am and 12:30 pm. Perfect oppotunity for your Girl Scout OR Boy Scout troops to meet volunteer requirements!  This is a family-friendly event – we invite anyone 5 and older to help plant. \nTreats provided. \nPlease sign up in advance so we know how many volunteers to expect. \nPlan to arrive approximately 15 minutes prior to your start time and check-in at the Farm Building next to the Visitor Center.    \nWe highly recommend hats\, gloves\, sunscreen\, bug spray\, shoes and clothes you are not afraid to get dirty! \nIf you have any questions\, please do not hesitate to contact Kim Husick at officemanager@sotterley.org or 301-373-2280 x. 1105
